Demographic Reports

Demographic Reports provide a simple, quick evaluation of a specific site, or a short-list of potential sites, that are being considered for a particular venture. By harnessing the power of a Geographic Information System (GIS), we are able to provide an analysis of data that is location specific, rather than relying on information disseminated at a broader municipal level. This allows for comparison between potential sites, or between existing sites and proposed new sites.

Demographic Reports offer an inexpensive option for clients who want to examine their own sites in depth, but do not have the time or the expertise to analyse the data themselves, or to weed through all of the data that they do not need in order to select what really matters. Quick and customisable, Demographic Reports are tailored to your proposed project or business: you get only the analysis you need, specifically for the sites you are considering, in an easy to navigate format.

The Process

You can select the data you would like us to analyse by ordering your Demographic Reports directly from our website’s Client Area New Assignments page. If you are not yet a client please contact us and we will be glad to register you. There is no charge for the demographic data itself but the cost of the analytical Demographic Report will depend on the quantity of information you wish us to analyse and interpret relative to your project. If you need assistance in selecting the demographic attributes that should be analysed, or would like us to customise your trade area, call or send us an email and we will be happy to assist you. The steps to select the trade area and demographic attributes to be analysed are simple and straightforward using the Client Area New Assignments page:

  1. Identify your location or locations.
  2. Select the trade area or trade areas which best suit your project. Basic trade areas will be either circular radii or drive time distances. If you need a more specific trade area or advice on the size of your trade area, call us and we can customise one for you.
  3. Decide what variables you need analysed. Maybe a snapshot overview is perfect for you. Perhaps you need a little more information for your project. We’ve grouped the available variables by topic so it’s easy to pick just what you think should be analysed.
  4. Decide if you want your report in PDF or Excel format.
  5. That is it. Our Economic Intelligence Unit consultants will do the rest, compiling and analysing the data, including customising any trade areas that do not make sense due to a particular geography. For example, if you are looking at a location on the Halifax Peninsula, areas of Dartmouth may not be pertinent, even if they fall within a two kilometre radius trade area. We will customise the trade area so that our analysis excludes Dartmouth, as well as including it, so you have a comprehensive analytical report pertinent to your location.
  6. If in addition, you have already firmed up the space mix for your project and would like the assurance that sufficient demand exists, you can order a SWOT (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, threats) analysis which will determine whether your site’s catchment area is aligned with your target market.

Fees

We believe that our clients should know what our services will cost before we commence the assignment: there should be no surprises! Demographic Reports have a standard fee structure, starting at $800 for the baseline demographic analysis for one trade area. From there, clients can customise their report with additional locations, dataset analyses and trade areas as required for $100 each. Your investment includes an overview SWOT Analysis; a project-specific SWOT analysis can be added for an additional $550 per location for each space mix at each of your chosen locations. The total fee can be reviewed prior to submitting the online order form.
