Manager - Matthew Smith, B.Comm., DULE, BBRE, AACI, P. App.
Matt joined Turner Drake in 2011 after graduating with a Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) degree from the University of Manitoba. He also holds a Diploma in Business Administration (Honours) from Red River College. He was granted a Diploma in Urban Land Economics (DULE) from the University of British Columbia in 2013 and graduated with their Bachelor of Business in Real Estate (BBRE) degree in 2014. Matt is a member of the Appraisal Institute of Canada (AIC) and gained accreditation in 2017.
Matt has experience in our Lasercad® Division certifying office, industrial, retail and residential space to the appropriate BOMA, SIOR, ULI and CREA standard in buildings located throughout the Maritime Provinces.
He is an experienced researcher having worked in our Economic Intelligence Unit gathering rental and operating expense data on office and industrial space for the Market Surveys we conduct on a semi-annual basis throughout the Atlantic Region.
Matt's involvement in our Property Tax Division includes analysing financial statements, building costings, and comparable sales for investment properties and portfolios. He has formulated positions for tax abatement on a wide variety of properties including light industrial and manufacturing, retail outlets, offices, and apartments. He has conducted property inspections throughout Atlantic Canada.
His experience in our Valuation Division includes the valuation of multi-use investment property including offices, retail and hotels. Matt is a member of our Investment Committee charged with investigating and analysing every shopping centre, office, hotel and multi-tenant industrial, transaction in Atlantic Canada. He thus has a window on this market few enjoy.
Matt's activity in our Counselling Division includes assessing compensation, and negotiating the acquisition of lands required for power transmission line rights of way in Newfoundland and Nova Scotia.
