Vice President Ontario - Richard Escott, B.E.S., MRICS, AACI, P. App.

Rick joined Turner Drake in 1981 and has extensive property valuation experience in Atlantic Canada and Ontario. These assignments include resource land, airport and marine port facilities, CCG bases, lead smelters and mining operations; investment properties such as shopping centres, office buildings, industrial properties, and apartment buildings.

He was awarded a Bachelor of Environmental Studies degree from the University of Waterloo, Ontario in 1976. He gained accreditation (Urban Option) with the Appraisal Institute of Canada in 1985 and subsequently passed the Rural Option in 1988. He was admitted into the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors in 2011.

 

Rick is our Food Processing and Agricultural Specialist and is well versed in valuing food processing facilities (juice, meat packing, fish plants) as well as farms, poultry and hog operations, feedmills, fertiliser plants and woodlots.

He is an experienced expert witness and has personally provided advice and concluded several thousand assessment appeals and valuation assignments throughout Atlantic Canada, Ontario and British Columbia. He has appeared as an expert witness before the New Brunswick Assessment and Planning Review Board, the Nova Scotia Public Utility and Review Board, the Nova Scotia Regional Assessment Appeal Court, the Newfoundland Assessment Review Commission and the Ontario Assessment Review Board.

Vice President, Ontario - Richard J. Escott



Manager Business Development - Ashley Urquhart, B.B.A., DULE.

Ashley joined Turner Drake in 2009 following two years of business experience after graduating with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Mount Saint Vincent University in Halifax. She was granted a Diploma in Urban Land Economics (DULE) from the University of British Columbia in 2013 and is continuing with their Bachelor of Business in Real Estate (BBRE) degree. She has completed many of the required courses. Ashley has also completed the Saint Mary's University course on Negotiation and Conflict Resolution.

Ashley has experience in our Lasercad® Division certifying office, industrial, retail and residential space to the appropriate BOMA, SIOR, ULI and CREA standards throughout the Maritime Provinces.

She is an experienced researcher having worked in our Economic Intelligence Unit gathering rental and operating expense data on office and industrial space for the Market Surveys we conduct on a semi-annual basis throughout the Atlantic Region.

Ashley also has experience in our Valuation and Counselling Divisions. Her involvement in the latter Division includes negotiating the acquisition of the lands required for the power transmission right of way in Nova Scotia for the Muskrat Falls project.

Ashley balances her duties as the Manager Business Development with her activities in our Brokerage Division.  As Manager Business Development, Ashley devises and supervises Turner Drake's marketing program for all seven Divisions.  She supervises the annual tax breakfasts for our Property Tax Division, seminars and presentations for the Economic Intelligence Unit and Valuation Divisions, and information campaigns for our Counselling, Lasercad®, Planning and Brokerage Divisions.

Manager Business Development – Ashley Urquhart




Manager Charlottetown, P.E. - Colin Rennie, B.A., Adv. Dip. GIS

Colin joined Turner Drake in 2020 with three years of GIS experience in the private and public sectors. He completed his B.A. in Geography from Mount Allison University (2014), and an Advanced Diploma in GIS from the Centre of Geographic Sciences in Lawrencetown, NS (2017). He is currently enrolled in the University of British Columbia's Diploma in Urban Land Economics (DULE) program.

His work focusses on spatial analysis and background research for projects across Atlantic Canada. He is primarily involved with the Economic Intelligence and Planning divisions, but his GIS work supports any number of assignments across Turner Drake’s various divisions. He has been heavily involved in several long-term projects that evaluated industrial development lands; this work has taken him through a wide-variety of property types across rural NS, NB, and PEI.

Colin manages Turner Drake’s bi-annual market survey, overseeing a research team that collects, and analyzes, over 11,000 data points on office and industrial property throughout the region.

Colin is Manager of our Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island office.

Manager - Mitchell Jones, B.Comm.

Mitchell joined Turner Drake in 2017 upon graduating with a Bachelor of Commerce from Saint Mary’s University.  He is currently enrolled in the University of British Columbia's Diploma in Urban Land Economics (DULE) and Bachelor of Business in Real Estate (BBRE) degree.

Mitchell was appointed Manager of our Valuation Division in 2020 initially working under the guidance of Vice President, Nigel Turner. Mitchell's experience has taken him throughout Atlantic Canada and as a lead consultant he is responsible for working on various assignments for financing, sale, purchase, expropriation and other purposes and across a myriad of property types (office, retail, industrial, nursing homes, apartments, etc.).  Mitchell has also assisted with Valuation work in Ontario on several industrial buildings.

Mitchell was formerly Manager of our Lasercad® Division and has extensive experience supervising the measurement of office, industrial, retail and residential space to the appropriate BOMA, BOMA/SIOR, ULI, and CREA standards, in buildings located through the Atlantic Provinces.  He also has experience in our Economic Intelligence Unit gathering market survey data throughout Atlantic Canada, as well as assessment appeal experience in our Property Tax Division.

Manager, Valuation Division - Patrick Mitchell



 

Manager - Nathan Hewitt, B.Sc., B.Mgmt.

Nathan joined Turner Drake in 2017 upon completing his Bachelor of Management and Science degree from Dalhousie University.  He is currently enrolled in the University of British Columbia's Diploma in Urban Land Economics (DULE) and Bachelor of Business in Real Estate (BBRE) degree.

He has been involved in analyzing income and expense statements, building costings and comparable sales for investment properties and portfolios for our Property Tax Division.  He has experience in assessment reviews, appeals, and negotiations on a wide variety of commercial, industrial, and multi-residential properties throughout Atlantic Canada.  Nathan also has extensive experience in our Counselling Division where he has completed land agency work for major infrastructure projects throughout the region.

Nathan was formerly Manager of our Lasercad® Division and has experience supervising the measurement of office, industrial, retail and residential space to the appropriate BOMA, BOMA/SIOR, ULI, and CREA standards, in buildings located throughout the Atlantic Provinces.  As a lead consultant in that division, he was responsible for certifying well over 800,000 ft.² of space.  Nathan's experience has taken him throughout Atlantic Canada and across a myriad of property types.

Nathan is Manager of our St. John's, Newfoundland office.

Vice President - Louis Poirier, BAA, AACI

Louis brings over 30 years of experience to the Turner Drake team.  He is a second generation AACI and has extensive experience valuing most types of real estate.

In addition to having valued office towers and retail properties in excess of 1 million square feet, various light and industrial properties, and speciality properties such as islands and conservation properties; Louis has significant experience in property assessment and tax matters, lease audit services, litigation and arbitration support.  His practice area covers Eastern Canada and Quebec, although he has completed valuation and consultative assignments in all Canadian provinces.  Louis' litigation support experience covers matters related to quantification of damages, expert witness representation, assisting in preparing expert witnesses, and providing appraisal review services.

Fluently bilingual with a Bachelor in Business Administration from the Université de Moncton, Louis has prepared valuations and expert witness reports and testified in both official languages before numerous legal tribunals and courts.

Louis is an avid volunteer with the Appraisal Institute of Canada (AIC) and the Canadian Property Tax Association (CPTA), regularly participating in annual conferences as a presenter or moderator.  Louis is currently a member of the National Board of Directors for the Appraisal Institute of Canada and the Provincial Board of the New Brunswick Association of Real Estate Appraisers. He is an active instructor of the Professional Practice Seminar, attendance at which is a requirement for all AIC members, and is a former Counsellor Professional Practice for the AIC.
